What to do this week in Peterborough (week commencing 24th August)

For us this is the last week of the summer holidays spent with everyone at home. Mark has the week off and the following Jack starts secondary school, so I am planning on making the most of it. For the past couple of weeks I have been sharing ideas on things to do during the week. I hope that you are finding these posts useful! Here is last week’s post for even more inspiration!

Visit Stamford Heavenly Chocolate Shop!! – This week see’s the opening of their brand new shop. Stamford Heavenly Chocolate shop opens on Monday 24th August at Sacrewell Farm! You don’t need to pay admission into the farm to visit the shop either. With a new shop comes new activities! There will be a viewing window into the kitchen so you can see the chocolate being made. There is plenty of space to host workshops too!NB if you are planning on visiting then you will be required to wear a mask inside the shop. They are also operating a 2 customer/1 family bubble in the shop at a time policy.

VR Happy! It was only this week where I learnt of this place! So I wanted to share with you too. VR Happy based in Orton Southgate re-opened on 4th July for pre-booked visits only. Virtual Realiry is a technology which creates a full 3D immersive world. Suitable for children aged 6+ there can be something found for everyone.

Booking is free and ensures you have access to 1 of 4 VR suites powered by HTC Vive. Interactive gaming sessions are priced at £20 for 30 minutes, or £30 for 60 minutes. When you buy an hour of gaming, you will be automatically signed up for VIP membership. This is completely free! This way, when you return, your second hour will only be priced at £25, your third at £20, and your fourth and other hours for only £15!

PYO Plums at Hill Farm – Closed for most of the strawberry/raspberry season, Hill Farm have opened up for Pick Your Own plums. Cafe, Picnic area, Toilets, Play area remains closed. However the shop is open for pre-picked produce or you can pick your own plums. Open Tues-Sat 10am-6pm.

Walk the Willow Tunnel – Did you know Bluebell Woods in Ferry Meadows is home to the Willow Tunnel. By the entrance of the Riverside Walk there was an unused area of bramble. It has since been cleared and a 100 metre willow tunnel was planted. It was weaved using willow steaks coppiced from Bluebell Wood’s osier beds.

Geocaching – If you are looking to explore your local area then download the Geocache app! Local blogger Leslie from Messy Blogs UK, has been getting out and about with her children. I have loved seeing what they find and it looks like a lot of fun.

Watch a film at the Cinema – At the moment all tickets to watch previously released shows at the Showcase Cinema are £5! With Covid safe procedures in place such as social distancing seating, cleaning between shows and an air purifying system which kills airborne viruses.

Short drive from Peterborough

Get Active at Tallington Lakes – A little drive out of Peterborough and you can reach Tallington Lakes. A full on Leisure park with water activities such as Swimming Pool, Kayaking, Wind Surfing to name a couple. Land activities include a dry ski slope, tennis, climbing wall. All activities need to be booked in advance.

Bounce! -Manor Farm, Sawtry Way, WYTON, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2DY – £10 per child over 18 months old – FREE under 18 months with an accompanied paying child, Adults £2 – 3,500 square metres filled with inflatables! 3 sessions available 9-12 and 12.30-3.30 4-7pm – online bookings only at the moment to help with Track and Trace. Cafe is open and they are part of Eat Out To Help Out scheme too! Numbers are restricted to around 30% capacity. Currently masks do not need to be worn, they say this is being monitored. Although personally if you are visiting I would wear one. Cleaning is being done daily using a fogging machine and workers are cleaning key touch points (slides/steps etc).

Explore somewhere new – Hitchingbrooke Country Park is only a short drive away from Peterborough. Brampton Rd, Huntingdon PE29 6DB – Parking costs £1 for up to 2 hours, or £2 for up to 6 hours. There is a fab play area with a variety of different equipment including a zip wire. The cafe is open as well as the Apiary where you can see honey bees.
