Exploring Cuckoos Hollow

     The Mum Diaries      1 Comment

Having lived in Peterborough all my life there are still so many areas I haven’t been too. Cuckoos Hollow is one of them! To think when my mum lived in Werrington, I would drive past there every week and didn’t even realise what was there. Anyways, Cuckoo Hollow is a small nature reserve in Werrington, Peterborough. It is completely free to enter and everyone can come and access it as and when they please.

Cuckoos Hollow, Peterborough

As we were travelling by car, one of the first things we needed to find was parking. We parked at the Werrington Centre car park which is free for up to 3 hours. It meant a little walk, however it really doesn’t take long. You could probably park closer in neighbouring streets, however we wasn’t sure where it was and we didn’t want to upset neighbours. So I would advise against this!

Cuckoo’s Hollow features a lake with an island in the middle. The Island is used by nesting ducks and swans and it was lovely to see little baby moorhens swimming in the lake. There are plenty of spaces to run around as well as wildlife to spot! The boys and I met with friends for a walk around and with neither of us visiting here before we were both keen to see what it was like.

We spotted the Fairy Door on one of the trees as well as finding hatched egg shells! We saw plenty of ducks on the lake and if we had thought about it we could have brought some oats or something to feed them!

Facilities

There are no toileting facilities and due to the parking, you probably wouldn’t spend all day here, however it makes such a lovely change of scenery to explore.

Accessibility

Cuckoo’s Hollow is accessible by path around the lake, there are bridges which should fit a wheelchair/pushchair however they are rather slim, so you no one would be able to pass by.

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?
