Half Term Madness! – 27th May – 4th June – May Half Term 2017

It’s that time of year again half term madness where I compile a list of fun filled activities you and your children can do!

27th May

Pond Dipping @ Ferry Meadows – 10.30am and 1.30pm – Free event suggested donation of £2 – Join the educational team to find out who calls the lakes home. –

Holiday Trail @ Ferry Meadows – 10am-3.30pm – 50p per sheet – collect a trail sheet from the visitor center and then hunt for the clues. Don’t forget to collect your prize from the visitor centre.

Summer Opening @ Peterborough Lido, PE1 5BW – Adult £5.80, Children £4.10- Fantastic outdoor swimming complex with 3 heated pools and an onsite café

First Osprey cruise @ Whitwell Park – 5.30pm-7pm – Take a guided trip with members of the project team aboard the Rutland Belle. Idea is to sail to the parts of the reservoir where we stand the best chance of seeing fishing ospreys and hopefully rewarded with great views. – £22 per adult and £13 for under 16’s – more information –

Badger Watch @ Anglian water birdwatching centre, Rutland water nature reserve – 9.15pm-11.15pm – Costs £10 per person – Open to all ages but parent discretion needed. Will need to sit and be quiet for over 2 hours. – more info ring 015653024

Hot Rod and Custom Show @ Peterborough Arena – Come and see some Killer hot rods, Classics, Rat Rods, American Cars and Custom Cars. –

28th May

Family fun drop in @ Anglian water birdwatching centre, Rutland water nature reserve – 10am-3pm – £3 per participant – Bring the family to hunt for bugs in the woodland, catch minibeasts and see what you can find in the pond. Lots of nature related craft sessions to join in with too. – Bug hunting and pond dipping sessions start at 10am,11am,12pm,1pm and 2pm –

The Burghley Game & Country Fair @ Burghley House, PE9 3JY – 10am-6pm – £12.50 Adults, £4 Children (5-15years), £33 Family (2adults and 3 children) – Three dedicated arena’s with a whole variety of exciting displays! With target field sports, airguns, pistol shooting, fishing on the lake, fiel archery and clay shooting there is plenty for all! Suitable for all –

Horrible Histories – The best of barmy Britain @ Key Theatre – 1.30m and 4.30pm – Recommended age from 5 to 105 – approx. running time 1hour 10 minutes no interval – £15 per ticket – Could you battle Boudicca, will you lose your heart or heat to Henry VIII, it’s the history of Britain with the nasty bits left in! –

1st June

Meeting magical mammals @ Ferry Meadows – 10am – Free event suggested donation of £2 – Suitable for children age 3+ – Join the ranger for a short walk to discover the small mammals that live in the park. Hopefully you will see voles, mice and shrews. – Not suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs or buggies.

We’re going on a bear hunt @ Ferry Meadows – 10.30am and 1.30pm – £4 each – 3years+ younger siblings may attend but must book a place if they take part – Bring your own teddy and join us on a bear hunt. There will be a craft session, story time and then a walk around the ferry meadows to find Barney Bear – may not be suitable for all types of wheelchairs and pushchairs. Children must be able to walk for approx. 30 minutes.

Bushcraft – Tool use @ Ferry Meadows – 10.30 and 1.30pm – Suitable for 10 years plus must be accompanied by an adult – £3 per child adults do not need to book a place –  sharp tools and knives will be used. If behaviour is not acceptable they will be asked to leave for safety of the group. – Join our forest school leader for a fun session developing skills in woodland tools use. Making wood craft items to take home i.e Gazoo, tent pegs and mallets
