What’s On in Peterborough during the summer holidays

There are so many things to do in and around Peterborough during the summer. I have put together a comprehensive go to list of all those family friendly events. This list is constantly being updated so make sure to bookmark it and come back.

MAD (Multi Activity Day) @ Nene Park – 5th August – 23rd August –

Want something to do during the school holidays? Why not come and join in with one of our Multi Activity Days, they are designed to be full of fun and excitement, meet new friends and develop new and existing skills. You will get to try a mix of adventurous outdoor activities throughout the day which will be a mix of water and land-based activities. Lunch provided.

Toy Story 4 @ Key Theatre – 11am and 2pm – £4 per ticket – Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realise that they’re worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy. – Book here

Roller Skating @ Werrington Leisure Centre – 5pm-8pm – Single ticket £4, Family Ticket (4) £11, Skate hire £2, Spectators £1.50- Our rollers skating sessions have the latest music, state of the art lighting and sound systems, plus our DJ taking your special requests. Children skating must be at least 4 years old and under 8’s to be supervised by a paying adult. Skate hire is available in sizes Junior 8 to Adult 12.

Hampton Makes Music @ Korp (Studio 4 at the Undercroft) – 2pm-2.45pm Drum Circle, 3pm-3.45pm Sing Circle, 4pm-4.45pm Music Making – A new series of regular music workshops for all the family – come along and be part of Hampton Makes Music!
Each session costs £2 per person, or book onto the whole afternoon (all 3 workshops) for £5. Sessions are suitable for all ages and skill levels, and equipment will be provided. – More info

NCT Peterborough Summer Fun Day @ Eye Community Hall – 2pm-4pm – NCT Peterborough are holding their first Summer Fun Day!
There will be a variety of stalls, games and things to buy, as well as delicious foods, ice cream and a bar!

Classic Transport Day @ Nene Valley Railway – Adults £16, Child £8, Family £40 – This year Nene Valley Railway is hosting its eight classic car event.  Once again Wansford Station will be home to a stunning collection of over 100 classic cars, motorcycles and even commercial vehicles congregate at our Wansford station. , each guaranteed to ‘transport’ you back in time through the decades.  Visitors will be treated to a special classic car display, whilst our locomotives steam away in the background.

Daytime tickets will give access to both screenings during the day, and evening tickets will give access to both evening screenings. This is an open air event and will continue whatever the weather so please bring waterproofs if rain is expected.

Spend the rest of the day testing Newton’s theories in our Science Centre and follow our Space Race Trail around the site.

Tractor Rides @ Nene Park – 10am – Join Ranger Chris Rollason for a ride in one of the Trusts tractors. Children can sit in the spare seat of the tractor while being driven around a cordoned off area on Coney Meadow – No need to book. First come first served – A queue system will be in place if busy

Kids Tree Climbing @ Nene Park – 10am-2.30pm (every 30 minutes) £2 per child – Children can come and have a go at tree climbing in a rope and harness. Full Instructions are given by our Rangers and all safety equipment is provided. – Book here

The Great Sacrewell Farm & Food Fest @ Sacrewell Farm – 9.30-5.30pm -If you’re a passionate foodie (and who isn’t?) The Great Sacrewell Farm & Food Fest is the perfect opportunity to connect with farmers & local artisans – everyone dedicated to producing and preparing unique, delicious, and wholesome local foods.  Held at Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre, we celebrate everything that’s home-grown and locally sourced.

We are bringing together celebrity chefs including Parveen Ashraf, Kwoklyn Wan, Simon Spooner and Chef James as well as local food champions showing us their wares and food tips in our live cooking theatre.

Festival of Archaeology @ Flag Fen – 10am-5pm – Adults £8, Children £5, Families £20, Under 5’s free – Get stuck into an archaeological adventure at Flag Fen as part of the national Festival of Archaeology.  Unearth treasures in our dig tent, have a go at making natural clothes dyes in our Bronze Age roundhouse and write with some Roman ink! Space Race Rocket Workshops @ Woolthorpe Manor, Lincolnshire – 11am-1pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm – Usual Admission Charges apply plus £2 per child – Join in the Space Race and design, build and test rockets of different types. Test which one works best; standard paper rockets, water rockets or film cannister rockets? Which are your favourite?

Spend the rest of the day testing Newton’s theories in our Science Centre and follow our Space Race Trail around the site.

Youth RYA Sailing Stage 2 @ Nene Park – 10am-4pm – £155 – This 2-day course covers launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat and basic sailing. Slime Saturdays @ Hobbycraft Peterborough – 10.30am-1.15pm -Join our colleagues in your local store as they show you how to make your very own textured slime.On the day, you’ll be making your own batch of slime – choosing from a range of colours and textures! Meeting Magical Mammals and Marvelous Minibeasts @ Nene Park – 10am – £2 per child – Join a ranger for a short walk discovering the small mammals that live in the park and then see what minibeasts also make their home here. We will hopefully get to see Voles, Mice and Shrews as well as talk about their habitat, diet and identifying features and find the teeny tiny creatures that hide and make their homes around the Park. – Book Here

The course puts all your knowledge that you have learned so far to the test to have a better understanding of the five essentials and improve your sailing. Ramsey Medieval Weekend @ Abbey College Grounds –10am-4pm – On the weekend of 10/11 August Ramsey invites everyone to a free Medieval Weekend. See and touch the archaeological finds from the recent excavations and experience a real dig with RACP and Oxford Archaeology East. Look at the extensive geophysical surveys and see where you think the ancient Abbey may have stood!

Willow Weaving: Basket Making @ Sacrewell Farm –10am-4.30pm – A basket it so versatile, serving as a fruit bowl, bread basket, table centrepiece and plant holder, to name just a few uses. Our experienced tutor from Nene Coppicing and Crafts will take you through the basic principles of the ancient craft of willow weaving. You’ll produce a useful, shallow, two-handled basket.

Our Willow Weaving: Basket Making workshop will run from 10:00 till 16:30 on Saturday 10th August. There are just 6 spaces available on this small group course, which costs £70 per person.

Sounds Right Phonics – Starting School Workshop @ Nene Valley Community Centre – 1.30pm-2.15pm -Is your child starting school in September? Want to give them a boost with their phonics before they get there? These sessions work through the first six sounds that the children will learn at school using listening games and sound blending activities. We also support gross and fine motor skill development ready for handwriting. All of this is done through our usual high energy, fun games so that learning is enjoyable. – More Info

When he stumbles across a coveted treasure map, young Jim Hawkins finds himself on an epic adventure in the hope of finding Treasure Island. But not everyone is to be trusted, and a dark secret is lurking on board the ship… Don’t miss this much-loved story (adapted for stage by writer Laura Turner) in the atmospheric surroundings of Flag Fen Archaeology Park.

Youth Windsurfing Course Stage 1&2 (2day course) @ Nene Park – 10am-4pm – £155- This 2 day (consecutive days) intensive course teaches participants the basics of windsurfing, including the key techniques and skills you need for success in this watersport. Slime Saturdays @ Hobbycraft Peterborough – 10.30am-1.15pm -Join our colleagues in your local store as they show you how to make your very own textured slime.On the day, you’ll be making your own batch of slime – choosing from a range of colours and textures! Please make sure you bring a container sot that you are able to take your slime home with you.

Summer Craft Market – Four Seasons @ Serpentine Green – 10am-4pm – Welcome to our Four Seasons Craft Fair Events, at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre. Come along and see what local small businesses have for sale. With the majority of stalls selling handmade items, there will something for everyone. Many returning stall holders and some new ones will be displaying their creations.

Following on from 2018, this market will be permanently outside, this mean loads more stalls to see! We plan for 30+ stalls to attend, with a great range of different goods.

Handmade food and drink will be available on the day, with a good range of options. Everything from treats to presents for family and friends. Even items for your pets! Trading is from 10-4 and free entry for the public. Plenty of free parking all day. Animal friendly.

Roller Skating @ Werrington Leisure Centre – 5pm-8pm – Single ticket £4, Family Ticket (4) £11, Skate hire £2, Spectators £1.50- Our rollers skating sessions have the latest music, state of the art lighting and sound systems, plus our DJ taking your special requests. Children skating must be at least 4 years old and under 8’s to be supervised by a paying adult. Skate hire is available in sizes Junior 8 to Adult 12.

Flying Aces @ Nene Park – 10am – Peterborough Model Flying Club (PMFC) was formed in 1938 and is one of the oldest and most successful model flying clubs in the country with a history of innovating new and successful control line and free flight events. PMFC is a multi discipline club with flying sites for free flight, control line and radio control (although we are not a predominantly radio club).

Members of PMFC are a group of like-minded people who enjoy the challenge of building and successfully flying miniature aircraft, whether it be for fun, in low key club competitions, or in national or even international events. Above all we fly for enjoyment in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and our members are all more than happy to offer the benefit of their experience and knowledge to others, whether a beginner or a seasoned old campaigner – you never stop learning with aeromodelling!

The Flying aces competition will bring enthusiasts to Ferry Meadows from afar. Why not go along and see the experts at their best.

Sunday 1st September

Holiday Trail @ Nene Park – 10am-3.30pm – £1 per child with a reward at the end – Collect a trail sheet from the Visitor Centre and then hunt for clues as you walk around Ferry Meadows.  Return to the Visitor Centre to claim your prize.

Inflatable Fun Park @ Bretton Water Park – 11am-4pm- £10 Full day (pre-bookable online) £2.50 15 minutes (book on the day) -Splash and play with our inflatable obstacle course. Whether you’re a family, a corporate or just looking to have some fun with friends, our inflatable fun park is for everyone. Suitable for 1m and above. Please note you will be measured on arrival and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Jurassic Park @ PE1 Retail Park – 10am-4pm – £2.50 all day wristband, £10 summer long wristband. – With plenty of twists and turns, visitors to PE1 can navigate and explore a giant maze that will lead to a 50 ft tall helter skelter volcano! Climb to the top of this molten mountain, then slide down the flow of lava to reach the ground once more. Each week, the magnificent maze will adopt a different theme. From jungle japes to Aztec antics and Egyptian entertainment to Jurassic jaunts, there’s a reason to keep returning all summer long.

Sacrewell Farm – 9.30am-5pm – Usual admission prices, with additional costs to some activities – pond dipping, duck races and den building,  along with some new events and activities.

I'm not ready for this, to have all my children in secondary school and no one left in primary. It's been a journey, but boy is he ready for his next adventure!
