Review | Taking part in the Easter Trail at Sacrewell Farm -

Last week the boys and I made full use of our annual pass for Sacrewell Farm and went for a visit. At the moment there is an Easter Egg Trail happening and the boys wanted to take part. I want to start the post by saying we were not asked to review, nor did we receive anything in exchange for posting. The boys and I received an annual pass at Christmas as a gift from their nanny and I paid £3.50 for each child to take part in the Easter Egg Trail.

Sacrewell Farm Easter Egg Trail

It has been a couple of years since we last took part in the easter trail our last one being in 2017. It was lovely to see the same Easter Bunny being used. The boys instantly recognised him as being part of Sacrewell, he has that uniqueness about him. The boys were each given a booklet and pen from reception. The trail is pretty self-explanatory; there are 15 giant wooden eggs dotted around the farm. They are not really hidden, but you do need to keep your eyes open. We very nearly walked straight past one if it hadn’t of been for Oliver and his super eagle eyes. Each wooden egg is numbered and you jot the number down in the booklet.

When you have managed to find all 14 eggs then you take the completed booklet to the garden next to the mill to collect your prize. The Easter bunny makes a couple of appearances throughout the day if you wanted to meet him. Although you don’t have too if you have shy children.

What we loved

The trail takes you to parts of Sacrewell that you may not usually visit. Such as the pond (or lake?) around the back of the mill. For us, it isn’t somewhere we usually venture as we tend to stick to seeing the animals. However, it is such a lovely view and you can watch the waterfall into the stream too. Around this area is also where you can find the Archery. I wasn’t aware this was happening and the boys would have loved to have had a go, for future reference it was £1 for 3 shots, I just didn’t have actual cash on me.

Sacrewell is renowned for its peacocks. They have free roam of the farm and can be found literally anywhere! It is one of the many highlights of our visits spotting the peacocks! They are such beautiful creatures!

New babies!

I haven’t seen Sacrewell so full of animals in such a long time. However, there is plenty to see and with new babies being born pretty much weekly there are always new ones to meet. At the moment there are a couple of times where you can go and help feed the lambs, it can get really busy. We decided not to take part in this and opted to come back when it was quieter to see them.

Oliver had seen that the goats look sore on their heads and wanted to know if growing horns was painful. We had seen a member of staff walk by and we decided to ask him. I kind of wish we didn’t, He explained that they had given the goats anaesthetic and burned the part where the horn grows to prevent growth. These goats were going to become dairy goats and as they are going to live in confined spaces they wanted to reduce the risk of harming each other. It’s this part of farming that I really detest and we all walked away feeling rather sorry for the goats, us adults even more so.

We were fortunate to meet this little one, who was born literally the day before our visit. I have no idea of its gender and as far as I am aware no name has been chosen either. However, it was sharing an enclosure with its mum and they are staying on the farm. The member of staff told us that they were keeping their horns.
