Christmas Tree Card – Christmas card make and do

     The Mum Diaries      5 Comments

This year I have focused more on handmade items so have been making our cards. We recently made Christmas Lights Cards which you can find here.

Christmas Tree

Along with our Christmas lights card we have also made Christmas tree cards. These were a little more tricky and took more to prepare but they are just as fab.

I hate the thought of wasting food so to make it a little easier I used potatoes that were starting to sprout. Prepare the potatoes by cutting the shape of the Christmas Tree within the potato. I also used Paper plates to pour some paint onto. No mess and easy clean up!

The boys all really loved to make the cards. All you need is 2 potatoes cut into shapes.
Dipping the potato into the paint and then onto the card.
You can use larger potatoes for smaller children. Alternativley you can also let your older children cut the shapes.

The cards are really easy to make and easily recognisable too.

This activity helps to aide several developmental areas and covers the following areas in the Early years foundation stage –

Mathematics – Shape, space and measure – Identifying the shapes need to make the Christmas tree.

Understanding the world – People and communities – Celebrate and value cultural, religious and community events and experiences.

Expressive arts and design – Exploring and using media and materials. –  Understands that different media can be combined to create new effects

Communication and Language – Listening and attention –  Is able to follow directions (if not intently focused on own choice of activity

Physical development – Moving and handling – Uses one-handed tools and equipment

What a great idea. I’m always looking for activities to do with Leanora and think this would be perfect. For me I’m going more down the route of creating some more personable. Thanks for the ideas.

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm not ready for this, to have all my children in secondary school and no one left in primary. It's been a journey, but boy is he ready for his next adventure!

I hope everyone got the options they wanted!
