Awesome things to do in Atlanta

The Mum Diaries      Leave a Comment

The Big Peach is one of the most incredible cities in the country.  If you can move past the jokes about how thick traffic is and the sticky summer heat: you have a city that has more heart than any other.  If you’re lucky enough to get to spend some time in Atlanta, there’s so much to do it can be hard to pick from.  A wild nightclub scene, some of the best music performances on earth, and endless museums and studios make it a hot spot for fun.

Here’s how to have a great time in this Southern favourite.

Fernbank Museum and 3D Theater

Dinosaur interest seems to come and go like the tide, but it lives a year in and out at the Fernbank Museum.  Not only can you walk amongst the unbelievably giant skeletons of the creatures of the distant past: you can see what they might have looked like. Unlike movies like Jurassic Park, the average dinosaur might have been feathery instead of scaly, but the degree of how fluffy they were is debatable.  This museum shows many options while also entertaining and educating.

Once you’ve worn yourself out from running with dinosaurs, slip off to the 3D theatre where the excitement comes out of the screen to you!  Nothing’s as fun as getting to feel like you’re in the films with the characters! Exploring this museum and the theatre can be a whole day experience for anyone who wants to have fun.

Georgia Aquarium

Do you want to walk beneath sharks?  Get to know stingrays?  Handle live starfish?  You can live out your aquatic dreams by getting to see the water wildlife in the Georgia Aquarium.  Most famous for rehabilitating and releasing loggerhead turtles, this aquarium works hard to educate and entertain wildlife conservation and our most vital resource: water.

The underwater walking tunnel allows you to gaze up at creatures you’d never want to meet in the ocean.  Docile sharks gliding through water amongst small fish will leave you stunned. Mammals are also cared for here, with sea lions and dolphins calling this museum home after being rescued due to injury or displacement.  All of the animals seem happy to be here, and you will be too if you visit!

World of Coca-Cola

If you’re new to the area and looking for things to do while you search for Atlanta houses for sale: you might not realize Atlanta is the birthplace of Coca-Cola.  This delicious and fizzy drink, which has had a few flavour alterations over the years, is as much of Atlanta’s identity as peaches and good reality television.

Please take a tour of the history of coke, and how it’s made, while you’re in town!  You can enjoy a free sample of the fizzy stuff while you get taken through the history of soda fountains and how we got to where we are today.  Although some parts of this exhibit may feel slightly like an advertisement, it doesn’t take itself too seriously and will entertain even the most avid Pepsi fans!

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?
