A few weeks ago Mark and I took the boys to Warwick Castle. We were invited for the day to review their newest show; The Falconers Quest. We had such a great day that I have decided to share what we got up too, and what there is to do if you decide to visit.
Warwick Castle

For us, Warwick Castle is really easy to get too, just under an hour and a half. Last time we visited Arthur was just under 2 so it had been a few years. Mark and I were really keen to see what if anything had changed. The one thing about our last visit that I strongly remember was the walk from the carpark to the entrance. It was the height of the summer holidays, a lovely day and we arrived after opening so there we parked on the overfill carpark. This time I was determined to park a little closer so we left early to ensure we arrived at about 9.30am. Warwick Castle opens at 10 am however by the time we parked, got ready and walked to the entrance which was still about a 5-minute walk it worked out really well.
When you enter the entrance courtyard you are greeted by ticket booths, a restaurant, the entrance into the grounds and then a gift shop. There are toilets there too, so it may be worth a toilet stop before you start. When you have bought or collected your tickets you head through the security and bag check before getting through the turnstiles to enter. When you have entered the first thing you will see is a big wooden notice board. Make sure to take a photo to refer to later on, as it informs you of all the events that are happening that day.
Horrible History Maze

This was a new attraction for us. Horrible History was there last time however it was more of a small village setup with actors all dressed up and there were different elements to it all. There was also a Horrible History show! This time though, there was a maze. All 3 boys were looking forward to completing the maze. As you enter there are maze passports to pick up. As you make your way around the different time periods of the maze you can collect stamps which leads to a prize from the gift shop. Mark and I loved the maze and the thought that went into designing it.
Time Tunnel
On our very first visit to Warwick Castle a few years ago we came across the Time Tunnel. Mark and I assumed it would all go over the boys head and assumed it would be an audio tour or something. However, Oliver went on a school trip to Warwick castle a few weeks before our visit and they had done the Time Tunnel then. He loved it and spoke so highly that we had to make sure we saw it too. It wasn’t what we had expected but it is definitely worth a visit. It’s a great mix of using technology to bring history to alive! from screen projectors on the walls, to light up models, to speak and moving portraits.

The whole exhibit was funny too! The boys seemed to understand the terminology and even had them laughing at one point. It is such a lovely way to bring the history of Warwick Castle to life for the children and adults alike.
Our top tips for visiting Warwick Castle
- Try and arrive early or as near to the opening times as possible. It can get really busy in the height of the summer and the walk to the entrance can be up to 20 minutes long.
- Pre-book your tickets, you then don’t need to queue twice; once for tickets and another through the security checkpoint.
- If you plan on bringing a picnic don’t forget a blanket! There are a few picnic tables dotted around, however, there are more grass areas.
- Want to catch a show? Try and get there early. There are all worth a visit!
- There is a princess tower that is by time slots only. So if this is something you want too, get there early to book a slot!
- Slush Puppies cost £4.50 for a long thin bottle (I doubt it holds much) and refills are £1.50, there are refill stations for them.
- Don’t forget your walking boots! IF you want to make the most of your trip then make sure you wear comfortable shoes! There are a lot of steps and a lot of steep, uneven grounds.
- If you have babies/young children then I recommend making sure you have a baby carrier, you can make the most of your trip without worrying about pushchairs.
