For the past few weeks, the boys have been wearing a pair of Treads School Shoes. Not having heard of them I was apprehensive when I came across their “indestructible school shoes” claim. They obviously haven’t met Oliver, nor seen his shoes. So when a review was organised I was eager to see how they faired.
The boys were each sent a pair of shoes, Oliver chose Madrid and Jack wanted Sydney. The school shoes start from a Junior 12.5 and use Dual Fit Technology to be able to give an extra 1/2 size if needed.
Dual Fit Technology
The Dual Fit Technology allows extra room if needed within the shoes. Underneath the shock absorbing removable insole is a removable footbed. The Footbed can be taken out to allow for a wider foot or to give an extra half size if needed. Being able to remove the footbed creates more depth which allows orthotics to fit comfortably in the shoe without having to buy boots.
One of the main unique selling points of Treads School Shoes is their indestructible claim. When making the shoe Treads use a technique called “Strobel”. It means that the upper part of the shoe is placed in a mould and the sole is injected around it creating one whole shoe rather than glueing the shoes together. This helps to create a stronger but more flexible shoe which for my boys is perfect!
Every shoe comes with reinforced heels and seams. The front of the shoes is scuff proof and can be wiped clean. Perfect for those quick 8am shoe cleans before leaving for school. Plus there is a 30 day money back guarantee AND a 12 month indestructible guarantee too!
Treads School Shoes
When it comes to buying school shoes I always pretty much visited one shop (rhymes with sharks). We were a great believer in getting them measured and buying shoes which lasted. With Jack, this was certainly the case. We have only ever had to buy him one pair of shoes for each school year (all bar one year when he managed to split a pair). Whereas Oliver is more active. His shoes are either trashed after a couple of months or he simply outgrows them. When spending £40 per child for school shoes it all suddenly adds up!
We have been using them every day now for a good few weeks. They are super easy to keep clean, a simple wipe over with a damp cloth is all that is needed. We haven’t felt the need at the moment to polish them up. Jack’s shoes are still looking great whereas Oliver’s are starting to show signs of wear. The front of the shoes are slowly showing signs of wear. I am really impressed with the quality of the shoes, they feel more sturdy than other school shoes we have used in the past. I would love to see Treads create school shoes for younger children. Arthur starts school in September and it would be lovely to have them all kitted out with the shoes.
Treads School Shoes currently have a limited amount of styles but there are some more designs being released in 2019. Prices are currently £35 per pair and you can have a look at the range here.
