It must be at least 2 years ago since I started The Mum Diaries Bedtime Stories. Reading is so important for children and over the years we have amassed quite a collection. I wanted to do something, find a way to share with you a selection of books. Some you may not have heard, others you probably know word for word. It’s really early days so I haven’t figured out how I am going about sharing, at the moment though, I am thinking one a week. However, we will see how it goes. For now, here is our first book – Mixed by Arree Chung.

Mixed by Arree Chung

With Black Lives Matter at the forefront of our minds, and rightly so, I have been re-evaluating our collection books to add more diversity. Going through our books, it had been awhile, I saw Mixed. It was a book we already owned, but one which had been left on our shelves. However it is such a lovely book that I wanted it to be the first one we featured.

Mixed tells the story of the very first colours; Red, Yellow and Blue and how they all lived harmoniously together until Reds declared they were best. The colours split into their own neighbourhoods living their own lives, until Yellow noticed Blue. They fell in love but not everyone was happy, they didn’t like colours mixing but Yellow and Blue had a baby, Green. Everyone agreed how lovely Green was. Soon after other colours mixed and whole array of different colours were made.

I love this book and it has since become one of my favourites to read to Arthur and Oliver. It shows that understanding, love and acceptance can make our world a better place. Something we all really need right now!

You can buy the book from Amazon*

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?
