We were gifted with a weeks accommodation at Hengar Manor in exchange for a review!
Last week we headed off to Cornwall for a week-long holiday to Hengar Manor, St Tudy. Cornwall has been on our destination list for a long time and I have always wanted to visit. Mark used to come when he was younger with his family and he was keen to show us the places he used to visit. Hengar Manor is part of a larger group of holiday parks and we were really fortunate to have stayed in a sister site in Derbyshire called Ashbourne Heights. So we kind of already knew what to expect and we were all really excited.
Waterside Lodge
Our accommodation for the week was a 2bed, 6 berth lodge beside a lovely fishing Lake at Hengar Manor. From the moment we stepped inside the lodge it was pretty perfect. We were welcomed with a welcome pack which contained the items we would need such as dishwashing items and toilet roll. The kitchen had a microwave and a gas oven as well as all the cutlery and tableware we needed. The table and chairs are made up for 4 so we did find we ate in 2 sittings. The only thing I felt was missing was a welcome booklet. It would have been useful to have information on opening times for the facilities or even local information.
When we stepped into the main room our hand towels were folded into really lovely elephants. The room was really big and spacious and you could be forgiven to think you were staying in a hotel room rather than a lodge.
Second Room
The second bedroom has 2 rooms and a small single wardrobe, Perfect for Oliver and Arthur. We were hoping to place a small camp bed between the boys for Jack to sleep on however the room was rather small and one wouldn’t fit. Instead, we placed the camp bed in the main room where there was plenty of space.
The Waterside Lodge has 2 toilets, one ensuite attached to the main bedroom and the other in the shower room. The shower room was a great size and large enough to be able to shower 2 of the boys together. The room did get rather steamy however the extractor fan and large window really helped to clear moisture.
The living space was great! The fireplace in the evening whilst watching television really made the whole lodge feel warm and cosy and the sofa was really comfortable too! The sofa can be pulled out to make a bed however we didn’t need to do this during our stay. There was plenty of storage and the coverage for the TV channels was good too! The boys really enjoyed watching cartoons in the morning and between trips.
The Hot Tub
Of course, the highlight of this lodge was our amazing Hot Tub! We were given plenty of advanced warning that the Hot Tub wouldn’t be ready for us to use in the evening of our first day as it would need heating up. However, by the time we were unpacked and settled, I did check the Hot Tub and it seemed pretty perfect for us to use.
The staff at Hengar Manor come and check the Hot Tubs every morning and they log the information on a little board attached to the Hot Tub. Or they are supposed too, our board was completed the day we arrived and then the following day but nothing else had been logged. We knew they came to do the checks, but they just didn’t update the board. Half the time we didn’t know they were even there, so they were really not intrusive at all.
The Hot Tub did seem a little overlooked with the other lodges and if the weather was nicer then that could have been an issue. The boys really loved using the tub and I think it made our week having access to it.
Facilities around Hengar Manor
Hengar Manor is a beautiful 18th century Manor House set within a 35-acre country estate. The whole country park is just so beautiful and well worth a visit. Our Waterside Lodge was located just by the entrance and is only one of a few different accommodation types you can choose to stay in. The facilities at Hengar Manor include an indoor swimming pool, sauna and spa as well as tennis, fencing and archery.
As well as all the leisure facilities we had fun exploring some of the other things available to do on-site. Hengar Manor is home to some wonderful wildlife and the huge bug hotel just outside of the children’s play park is not to be missed.
There is a wooden play park which has everything from swings to monkey bars and climbing frames too. It is super spacious and the boys had great fun playing and exploring everything on offer. We could have spent ages there playing, I really should have packed a picnic.
Then there are the ducks. Hengar Manor has lots of them and for £1 you can buy a big bag of feed from reception to feed them.
Shop
On-site there is a shop you can go to and buy all the items you may need such as milk, chocolate and paracetamol! As well as the convenience food you can buy the shop also sells a whole range of fishing equipment from rods to the bait you need for the fishing lakes. The shop isn’t open all the time so you will need to check the opening times.
The Local Area
Hengar Manor is located in a pretty great spot for exploring Cornwall. The nearest beach is called Trebarwith Strand and it’s only about 6 miles away. Tintagel isn’t that far either to explore and if you are members of the English Heritage and National Trush memberships you can make use of them. Tintagel Castle is English Heritage and the Old Post Office House is National Trust. During our visit we also made a trip to the Eden Project (about 35 minutes away). Newquay (50 minutes away) and to the beach at Polzeath (around 40 minutes away)
