We were given entry into Warwick Castle in exchange for a review of the show, The Falconers Quest.
On Saturday Mark and I took the boys to Warwick Castle. We had been invited to watch the brand new Falconers Quest Show and it sounded amazing. The last time we visited Warwick Castle Arthur was just under 2 and the show back then was called the Birds of Prey Show. It was a pretty great show which had several birds of prey flying around. However, this show, The Falconers Show is different, so different.

The Falconers Quest Show
It is always worth checking the show times before you arrive or at least when you arrive. There is a notice board just as you enter which tells you all the showtimes for the day. It is handy to take a photograph of it, so as the day goes on you can refer back to it rather easily. The Falconers Quest Show runs twice a day once in the morning and again in the afternoon and is included in the entrance fee.
The show makes great use of the river with benches set out for the audience to sit which overlooks the show area. The shows at Warwick Castle can get busy, so if you want a bench, make sure to arrive early. Little children may struggle to remain comfortable on the bench though, Arthur a couple of times kept slipping off. However, on a lovely day, there is plenty of space to sit on the grass and you still get a great view.

about the show
The Falconers Show tells the story of Hobby, who wanted to become the best Falconer Warwick Castle had seen. His wish was to see the skies above Warwick filled with birds of prey. The story sees Hobby go on his travels to collect and befriend each bird of prey which he then brings back to Warwick Castle. During the show we saw several different kinds of birds;
- Lammergeier,
- Eagle Owl,
- Harris Hawk,
- Barn Owl,
- Red Kite,
- Peregrine Falcon,
- Bald Eagle

One by one each bird was introduced along with some of the facts about them. Such as the Peregrine Falcon being the fastest animal in the world with speeds over 200mph. We sat right at the front and during the show, the Peregrine falcon flies right in front of us. We heard the whoosh as it flew past and felt the air too. It was incredible.

The most spectacular part, however, was the ending. Where up to 70 birds (although it doesn’t seem to look that many) are in the skies at one time. Watching them all fly out from the wooden building across the river and soar the skies really was a sight to see. The whole show was fast-paced, with music and smoke machines, and all 3 boys were just transfixed.
Our top tips
If you want to sit at the bench arrive early! Our showing was 11.30 so we decided to head over around 11 and we gave the boys their lunch whilst we waited.
It doesn’t really matter where you sit though as the bird handlers were very good at moving angles so everyone saw the birds.
Around an hour before the show there is a talk for the Trebuchet and on good days you can see it in action. We found once that show finished people moved across to get ready to see this show as they are next to each other.
Don’t stand up once the show starts. You are reminded just before the show to remain seated. The birds fly incredibly fast and they swoop so low too!
