Half term, we were invited to visit The National Space Centre in Leicester. We were there to watch and review the newest planetarium show; CAPCOM GO! The Apollo Story. The show was held inside the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, the largest planetarium in the UK. CAPCOM GO! The Apollo Story highlights the achievements of the Apollo missions, in what is the 50th year of the first steps on the moon.

One of my worries was that Arthur and Oliver may struggle with the show. However I needn’t have been, as every time I glanced over they were just enthralled. Even though the show was very detailed, there was a lot of information to intake, the boys didn’t seem to mind. Jack loved every minute watching the show and couldn’t take his eyes off the screen.
CAPCOM GO! was created by the National Space Centre’s very own NSC creative team. They used their 15 years of experience in creating immersive media to showcase the film. CAPCOM GO! uses a mixture of different media to bring it all to life, such as old voice clips and video footage. The 360-degree screen really helps to create a 3D film and you can really feel yourself there taking it all in.
Fully immersive

What I loved most about the film was that the focus wasn’t just on the astronauts who went into space. It was about the team of people who made it happen, from the engineers, designers and communications team to mathmatics and scientist who made space travel a possibility. Even highlighting the women who helped make it happen.

When the show came to an end it asked the question to the younger members of the audience whether they too could be part of the team for the next space missions. It must have really sparked something within Oliver because as soon as we got home, space was all he spoke off.
