Things to do this bank holiday weekend

Burghley Summer Fine Food Market  – Food markets with a difference! Come and meet a large range of local suppliers in a celebration of local produce with handmade cheeses, organic vegetables, luxury sweet treats and rare breed meats at one of our seasonal Fine Food Markets.
The market takes place in The Courtyard. Open 10am to 4pm. Free admission and free parking.

Truckfest – 30th&31st August – With one major event successfully delivered at the East of England Showground recently Truckfest Peterborough 2020 is good to go and we can’t wait! This year’s TRUCKFEST (usually held over May Bank Holiday) was unfortunately delayed but, with the necessary health and safety guidelines and Covid-19 precautions in place, it’s back temporarily over August Bank Holiday weekend.

Truckers, truck fans and families who enjoy this annual spectacle will now be able to walk around the East of England Arena getting those all-important photographs of the UKs top trucks on display. From classics of yesteryear to giant American supertrucks expect to see the best there is!

Shopping amongst the traders market and family funfair rides will also be part of TRUCKFEST 2020.

The main arena will be alive with monster truck and motorcycle action plus road rescue demonstrations. A street food market will have a wide variety of delicious hot food available.

This year visitors are asked to pre-book online and you can do so on the TRUCKFEST web site where you will of course enjoy the pre-booking discount. Your advanced ticket will also ensure swifter entry into the event.

Take part in Nene Parks Six Weeks of Summer event – Every Saturday a new clue is released on Nene Park’s website and social media. These will range from puzzles, riddles or picture clues which will lead you to a landmark within the park. To have a chance of winning register your details on the the online booking system.

Free and Low Cost Days Out

With the end of the summer holidays in sight here are a few ideas of free and low cost things you can do. For more ideas click here.

Holme Fen Woods -10 minutes from Yaxley is Holme Fen Woods. Download the trail before you set off and explore. With it being off the beaten track it can get really muddy and there can be exposed tree roots too. There isn’t any specific parking either although there are laybys nearby you can park.

Crown Lakes, Farcet – is a lovely well-maintained country park. There isn’t a playground as such rather than plenty of green space. There is a small free carpark, but no other facilities, so no toilets. Perfect to hunt for painted rocks!

The Green Wheel – We are so fortunate in Peterborough to have 45 miles of cycle route in and around the city. Visit Sustrans to find a route! and enjoy sightseeing what the city has to offer.
