A couple of weeks ago I went for the first time to visit Refill Revolution Peterborough. Having seen they were opening a new refill shop in Peterborough it was somewhere I was really keen to check out and have a look. Over the past few years there are a growing number of places to visit for zero waste shopping, and it has been lovely to see more and more places open.

Over the past few years I have been on a journey to be more conscious of what I buy and to try and reduce the amount of unnecessary products and plastics in our home. It all started when Oliver was 4 months old and we switched from disposable nappies to cloth nappies. As he grew older and I became pregnant with Arthur we then switched from disposable wipes to reusable cloth ones. The cloth nappy community opened my eyes to other items I could switch. From reusable water bottles to my toothbrushes. It has been a journey that I am loving and embracing.
Refill Revolution Peterborough
Refill Revolution Peterborough is the latest franchised shop opened up in Peterborough. It is ran by a lovely lady called Julie. Julie has teamed with the folks over at The Green Backyard for the right venue to set up shot. Both Julie and The Green Backyard have a shared passion of sustainability.

The Green Backyard is a lovely area of Peterborough where community is at the heart of what they do. Their aim is to not only bring people and communities together but to also create an innovative and fruitful place for them to thrive. There are plenty of opportunities to visit through events and volunteering opportunities. You can find out more here.
Opening Times
Being a one woman band the shop isn’t open every day. The opening days and times are below;
Thursday – 9am-4pm
Friday – 9am – 4pm
Saturday – 9am – 4pm
The address is The Green Backyard, Oundle Road, Peterborough, PE2 8AT.
What I love about the location of Refill Revolution Peterborough is where the shop is actually located within The Green Backyard. The shop is in an old shipping container which has been really well renovated to give it a whole new lease of life.
What’s available
There are so many items available to buy from the shop. From pasta, to spices, to toothbrushes to laundry liquid. It is the ideal place for cupboard staples and to refill the items that are often used such as washing up liquid.

Prices vary for what you buy and of course how much you buy, However each item is clearly labelled with the price tag as well as the product list and prices easily found on the Facebook page. Julie is happy to answer any product queries and is really approachable and knowledgeable on what she sells.

There isn’t just the refillable items that Julie sells in her shop. There are also lots of products and reusable items to buy too. I had my eye on some shampoo bars and toothpaste tablets. However there are reusable coffee cups, sandwich bags and lunchboxes.
Items to clean
Julie also stocks a range of items for cleaning around the home. So not just food. There are coconut husk cleaning brushes, nail files, washing up detergents, laundry cleanser, toilet cleaner, multi surface cleaner and hand soap! You can even refill your hand sanitiser bottle!
What container can I bring?
The one thing I love about refill shops is being able to refill the original container. So I brought my own Muesli jar when I refilled. However if you are refilling your washing up liquid you can bring your bottle. Julie pre-weighs your own containers before filling up so you only pay for the amount of product you buy.

You can bring Jars of all shapes and sizes and recently Julie even refilled a refill plastic bag. But don’t worry if you haven’t got an empty container as there are some bottles available to buy as well as some paper bags and donated clean jars to use too.
Worth a visit!
I do think everyone should visit Julie at Refill Revolution Peterborough and make use of having such a handy refill shop available. I did have some hesitations when going to a refill shop especially shopping on a budget however Julie was happy to weigh to a monetary value rather than a weight which made it easier to plan for budgets. Also, with the prices easily available you know how much you are spending.
So go and give Julie a visit and support our local businesses!
