Free things to do in Peterborough

Over the summer I set myself the challenge to try and entertain the boys on a budget of £50 for a week. You can see how we got on here. With the cost of living and prices rising everywhere I wanted to share some ideas on free things to do in Peterborough.

1. Visit a park

The first one may be pretty obvious thing to do, however, it had to be listed. We are fortunate to have so many parks dotted around the city, I even created a map here. If you are bored of your usual one, then head to one a little further field. Just this week we have discovered some awesome parks all with play equipment that isn’t at our usual one!

2. Feed the ducks

Another one that you have probably done hundreds of times! We tied this into a visit to Railworld Wildlife Haven literally minutes away. You can buy a litre tub of swan and duck feed (to ensure you are feeding them something healthier than bread) for under £3!

We tend to put a sandwich bag of feed into our bag whenever we are heading out so we have some feed in case we come across any ducks to feed.

3. Trails around the city – Ratzi and Blue Plaque

4. Green Wheel

Peterborough Green Wheel is a network of cycle routes in and around Peterborough created as part of the Millennium project.

The Green Wheel is 20.2 miles (32.5km), 100% asphalt and is approximately 30.4% traffic free.

You can find more information here.

5. Paddling Pool/Splash Parks

In the summer months, the paddling pool in the town park is a lovely place to play and explore and it’s free with free car parking, however, make sure to check the time restrictions.

6. Fossil Hunting

We recently became members at the Kings Dyke Nature Reserve in Whittlesey. It is completely free to sign up too and it gives you entry into the nature reserve. On-site there is a fossil hunting area where they

7. Geocaching

As a family we love Geocaching! It is like a real life scavenger hunt and the boys have loved trying to find the caches. It also meant we spent more time outdoors and away from the computers, so win win. Simply download the app on a phone or tablet and go on a walk. Make sure you bring along a pen so you can fill out the cache slip and have fun!

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm not ready for this, to have all my children in secondary school and no one left in primary. It's been a journey, but boy is he ready for his next adventure!

I hope everyone got the options they wanted!
