Meal Planning Monday!

     The Mum Diaries      3 Comments

Last year I would go through times where I would share with you my meal plans each week. However it wouldn’t take long before I either forget to post or just didn’t. I took to my Instagram stories to ask my followers what they wanted to see from my blog for 2021 and pretty much everyone that took part in my questions, replied saying they wanted to see more of my weekly meal plans. I am so pleased many of you find them interesting enough to want to read each week.

Small introduction to my families taste palates!

Before we get onto this weeks, I think it would be best to share with you my families taste palate. This may help you understand what I have to deal with it when it comes to planning and preparing their meals.

Me – I really enjoy my food! I like pretty much most things except shell fish and anything really really spicy! I will try almost anything.

Mark – His taste pallate is getting better! When we first met he wouldn’t eat garlic bread, he now loves it! However, he is very much led by his nose and if he doesn’t like the smell he refuses to eat it.

Jack – Will try anything and pretty much eats most things. There isn’t a lot he doesn’t like.

Oliver – Will try anything and pretty much eats most things, doesn’t like tomatoes, mashed potato or rice.

Arthur – Incredibly fussy! Puts his nose up to most meats except Chicken, Beef and Sausages. He is starting to try new things but its an awful long process. He doesn’t eat potatoes or peas. He eats a specific type of chip, doesn’t like homemade wedges unless covered in paprika. He eats most salad, fruits and some veg.

All 3 boys love their pizza’s and would probably be more than happy to eat it every day given a chance. They also love pasta! so a lot of our dishes contain either pasta/rice.

This week’s meal plan

So this is our first meal plan of the week! Our side salad pretty much consists of sugar snap peas (all 3 love them!), cucumber, carrot, peppers (again, all 3 love red/yellow peppers) and tomato’s for those who like them. We don’t have dressings on them as the boys don’t like them.

Monday – Ham, Egg and Chips with a side salad

Tuesday – Homemade Pizza and salad

Wednesday – Spaghetti Bolognaise with Garlic Bread

Thursday – BBQ Chicken and Rice (pasta for those who don’t like rice)

Friday – Homemade Chicken Nuggets and Wedges with Beans

Saturday – Pasta and Sausage Hotpot

Sunday – Roast Chicken Sunday Dinner

Shopping List

Ham Chunks – £2.50
Eggs – £2 for 15 Free Range
Potatoes – £1.15 for 2.5kg
500g Lean Mince – £4
Pasta – £2.85 for 3kg
Garlic Bread x2 – 32p each
Chicken – £8.45 for 1.6kg (8 breasts)
Tinned Tomato x5 – 28p each
Tomato puree x2 – 28p each
Cheese – £3.99 for 0.9kg
Pepperoni – £1 for 120g
Rice – 45p for 1kg
Baked Beans x2 – 23p each
Sausages x2 (16 sausages in total) – £1.70 per pack
Cucumber x3 – 43p each
Carrots – 41p for 1kg
Sugar snap Peas – £1 per bag
Peppers x3 – 45p each
Onions – 85p for 1kg
Tomatoes – £1 for 325g
Frozen Mixed Veg – 79p for 1kg
Brown Sugar – £1.30 for 500g
Malt Vinegar – 40p for 568ml
Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce – £1.70 for 150ml
Plain Flour – 60p for 1.5kg
Bread – 99p
Paprika – 90p

At Tesco this shop would cost £43.13 (£8.62 per person). Not all the items I chose in the basket are the cheapest, and a lot of the items would go towards your store cupboard staples so can be reused in future meal plans. If I took away the pasta, rice, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika, flour and vinegar the basket would be under £35 (£6.98 per person).

Hoisin chicken noodles are one of our favourite me Hoisin chicken noodles are one of our favourite meals, and it is easy for us to make a veggie alternative for Oliver.

However, we need some more meal ideas to try and change things up. Do you have any suggestions?
