We were given a 3 night complimentary stay at Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site in Norfolk
Camping is something we have really come to love over the years. The boys love the freedom of exploring and Mark and I love being able to spend time with them. We decided to take a trip to Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site for the weekend. We had not long got a new tent and we wanted to try it out. Mark and I discussed getting a smaller tent for when we decide to go away for shorter trips. Our Skandika Gotland 6 is lovely for longer trips, however, it was too big when we took it to Diglea Holiday Park earlier in the year.
Sandringham Caravan and Camping Club Site
I often take the boys to Sandringham Country Park over the holidays, we love the play park and nothing beats the apple juice bought from the shop. So when we were looking at local places to camp so we can test the tent, Sandringham felt like the right choice for us. It is only about an hour from us, so it meant we could travel after school and still hit daylight when we arrived! We arrived and checked in, and as usual, we were shown to our pitch. As we don’t use electric we tend to have free reign*ish for where we want to go. The boys love the park so we were shown a couple of pitches near the park, toilet block and water taps.
The tent didn’t take too long for us to pitch considering we had never done it before. As it was a lot smaller it didn’t take too long to unpack and set up the beds and within about 2 hours we had unpacked, pitched up and sat enjoying our first cuppa. The Playpark is a lovely wooden playframe which kept all 3 of the boys amused the entire weekend.
The Facilities
As usual, the facilities at a Camping and Caravanning Club site was pretty spot on. The block closes around midday to be cleaned but there is an alternative one available to use not too far away. There is also a family shower room which seemed a decent size for the 5 of us! Although we only really used it for quick washes and teeth brushing. The block is also home to laundry facilities and dishwashing. On-site there is a great little shop which was pleasantly stocked and reasonably priced as well as a visiting fish and chip van.
Things to do,
During our stay the weather was bad, it rained pretty much the entire time. Not a family shy to adverse weather conditions we donned our best rain gear and headed out. As National Trust and English Heritage members we made the most of our memberships and visited Oxburgh Hall. It was around 35 minutes from the site. The boys enjoyed the trail and it was a welcome relief from the rain.
The following day we took a trip to Sandringham Country Park. Still raining we went on a lovely walk in the woods. The boys love the park and we spent awhile letting the boys have a play. If the weather was any better we could have stayed the entire day, however, it wasn’t. We headed back to camp after a few hours.
In the evening we took a trip along the dog walking route around the campsite. It was a lovely short walk and being in the woods, we were sheltered somewhat from the rain.
Overall
We loved our stay and would definitely return. In the summer we would make the most of being close by to Hunstanton and Brancaster beaches. The site was really clean and well maintained too!
