As many of you already know we love camping. Nothing beats being in the outdoors and sleeping under the stars and as a family it’s something that we have really come to look forward too. Last year we only managed 4 camping trips, although 1 of those was just for a night in a bell tent! It still counts though right? We did however visit 3 brand new to us campsites, which have all been added to places we will re-visit. This year however, I want to try and stay at some other new to us places! So I thought I would share with you our camping plans.
Last year we also went camping with Mark’s sister and her family and we all really enjoyed it. I think having another family there to talk too and for the children to play with was a great way to pass the time. We had to cancel and rethink a couple of trips in particular to Wicksteed Park and Sherwood Pines, thanks to isolating and illness. This year, although I have worked out we have about 10 dates we can use, I may not book every date. Just in case we need to rebook, booked dates, if you know what I mean.
Our Camping Plans
Due to Mark’s work we don’t have that many weekends where we can camp, and teamed with my work and school, we are limited on when we can actually leave. So we tend to stick to campsites that are within a couple of hours of Peterborough, unless its a glamping/ready pitched site, then of course we can travel a little further as everything is pitched. Otherwise I just have visions of us pitching a tent in the dark and no one needs that amount of pressure!
Whilst looking at campsites last year I came across Laurel Park Campsite. It’s a family run site in Spalding and I love that the pitches surround animals which are in the centre. It looks absolutely wonderful and at £20 a night it is super affordable too. The reviews all sounds great and it just looks like a really warm, family friendly site!
We of course would love to head back to MadHatters Campsite in Ely. We are big fans of this place, I wrote a review a couple of years back after visiting in 2020! Again, it is one of those sites where it is well looked after. The pitches are surrounded by wildflowers so there is a brim of wildlife. There is a wildlife pond and the toilet/amenities block is well kept! We were super impressed with how well it all ran especially during the pandemic. We all felt really safe and the whole site was clean! Plus, the site is really promoting the use of reusable items, as they don’t like single use plastics being used! So it really fits well with us trying to be a more sustainable.
As I mentioned earlier we had to cancel a couple of places that we had booked last year. This year, hopefully we will make it there. We have camped at Wicksteed Park before and it was a great stay, the boys loved having the theme park on the doorstep and it wasn’t too far from us either. Sherwood Pines, was going to be another brand new to us site, so fingers crossed we can make it there this year!
So I think that covers our camping plans for 2022. The biggest thing I hope to do this year is to visit more new to us places, as well as going back to campsites we found and loved.
