When I was sent the Three Little Imps Back Pack to review I was also sent a couple of their cloth nappies. Running my nappy library I have come across literally hundreds of nappies. As well as using them on my 2 youngest children too! I wouldn’t call myself an expert more an enthusiast!
I really couldn’t wait to get these on my niece and nephew to really give them a good test!
The Three Little Imps Cloth Nappies
The nappies are a simple pocket nappy and come with either 2 microfiber inserts or 2 bamboo inserts each. Although microfiber are not the most absorbent type of material it is a really popular choice and very common when buying pocket nappies. The nappies have 3 rows of poppers on the front to adjust its size so they fit the range small to large (3-13kg which is roughly 6.6lb to 28lb). As well as poppers to adjust the size there are poppers going across the front to fasten it together. Pocket nappies in general are a popular option as they tend to be one of the quickest drying types currently available.
Once washed the outer pocket nappy can be dried outside in a few hours. The insert doesn’t take too long either.
The nappies I was sent came in individual zip lock bags with a small information booklet. The booklet covers how to fit the nappy. It doesn’t go into how to prepare the nappy for the first use, wash and dry or where to store them when they are dirty or clean. The booklet says there is information on the website but you have to click on the nappies and the information is in the product description so not the most easiest to find.
From my experience of using and running the library I always suggest to prewash the nappies before use. It helps to get rid of any factory/manufacturing residue that may be left behind. You can put them on a cold rinse and that should be fine. Then simply air dry. Three little imps do say they can be put in the tumble dryer. If choosing this option then make sure it is on a low heat setting. The more you use the tumble dryer the shorter the life span of the pockets it doesn’t affect the microfiber inserts as much. If you can hang them outside or on a radiator dryer as much as possible.
When fitting the nappies on baby make sure the nappy sits in the crease of babies skin like they are wearing a pair of high leg briefs. There is a great fit guide on the Uk Nappy Library Network website.
How long can you expect from the nappy?
This varies between children. We managed to easily get 3-4 hours with baby but with older one we had to change around the 2.5 hour mark he has been drinking like a fountain though!. Regardless which nappies you choose to use they need to be changed every 2-4 hours. We used the nappies on my niece (13 weeks) and they lasted several hours!
Out and about
Three little imps also sell a range of wet bags to store dirty nappies in. They are a great size and can easily hold 4-6 nappies in. They are however drawstring so although not my favourite (I prefer zipped) they are easy to open and close.
