Those who have been fortunate (or unfortunate) to step foot in my house or seen my insta stories will know I am no Interior designer. I don’t really have much of a style and my living room currently resembles a small Ikea set up. However, introducing a theme or style is something that I do want to do but I have no idea where to start! Last week I was invited along to meet Sally, Mary and Emma from the John Lewis Home Design Service as well as a few local bloggers! Unfortunately, Emma couldn’t attend, and a couple of bloggers couldn’t make it. It didn’t stop the rest of us having a great time!
John Lewis Home Design Service
The evening was spent learning all about the home design team and what it is they actually do! Like did you know they can help and advise you for free if you visit them in store? John Lewis offers 2 services; Free Style Advice and Design Consultation at home. You can book a session with the team either online or by visiting your local branch. The Free Style Advice sessions are perfect if you are only wanting help with 1 room or for just general styling advice they last 90 minutes. Both Mary and Sally advise to come prepared because the more information you can give them the more tailored the advice. For example by providing dimensions and bringing photos of staple pieces such as sofas and mirrors etc they can make sure that the items/colours/textiles they recommend will match.
One of the other services the design team love doing is the more detailed Design Consultation at Home. For £250 they can come and travel to you. Each of the John Lewis stores cover a specific area; Peterborough covers anywhere from Skegness to Norfolk and other surrounding areas. This service includes things such as floor plans and interactive mood boards which really help to visualise how the rooms would look. This service is ideal if you have a larger project or just want a more personalised service. The home visit lasts 2 hours and a follow up in store 1 hour appointment will be made. It is also worth a mention that if you spend £1500 in John Lewis then your £250 charge for the service is refunded. Looking at the Autumn/Winter trends it can be easily done!
John Lewis Autumn/Winter Trends for 2018
After our introduction to what services are available we took a walk around the home floor to find out more about the upcoming trends. One of the notable trends John Lewis has picked up on is the growing popularity of Maximalism.
Maximalism is an “aesthetic of excess” and another way of bringing personalities into our home. It isn’t so much about filling our spaces with stuff but mixing and matching textures and colours. A way John Lewis showcases this is by bringing Vibrant velvet upholstery and introducing geometric floor coverings opulent metallic accents.
Another new trend is the Nordic Retreat. It was designed to allow homes to be updated by using simple accessories. Nordic Retreat uses a mix of natural woods, smoked glass and ceramics in a warm and neutral colours of off whites, soft greats and cool blues.
The Design Project by John Lewis
John Lewis wanted to introduce their own luxury brand and developed a range with reflects and responds to the way we live. Autumn/Winter introduces colours and materials which are more luxurious and richer with hints of brass, walnut, emerald and ruby. Each piece is carefully designed to enrich variety in contemporary spaces which also offers versatile and practical solutions.
House by John Lewis
If I had to put my style of design into a John Lewis category it would be this one. House is all about patterns and prints! In-house designers Amie Jones and Naomi Barber have both designed key prints for this season. Amie Jones designed the hand drawn cheetah. Naomi Barber design is the flecked spot. I must admit I didn’t think I would love the cheetah print as much as I actually do! I also fell in love with the print below on the cushion. It also features on a lamp too!
We are currently in the market for a new sofa! Living in a small house but having lots of people we need a sofa that can cater for us all. More often than not though I have come across a style of sofa I like but just can’t find the right colour or fabric. However with the John Lewis Sofa Studio that isn’t an issue!
After you have chosen the shape of the sofa (there are plenty of different ones to choose from) you then choose the fabric.
With over 350 different fabrics and colours there is something to suit pretty much all styles/requirements. If you choose a sofa which has legs you can even choose the design of those too! So you can have your very own customisable sofa which no one else may have.
.I was invited to an event hosted by John Lewis, I haven’t been compensated for writing this.
