Goodbye 2018 and Hello 2019 – Happy New Year – Our 2018 Highlights

Mark and I were sat on the sofa with Jack and Oliver it was coming up to midnight and they were so excited. A few hours before I put Arthur to bed, he was so tired but boy was he fighting it! However as midnight was coming and everyone else was awake I felt bad. I wanted Arthur with us so went upstairs and woke him. He was so excited to see the fireworks and couldn’t wait to come downstairs to watch them. So as we said goodbye to 2018 we welcomed 2019 together as a family.

I also thought it would be a good time to reflect on the year we have had.

January 2018

My new years resolution was to stop biting my nails! (Update: I still haven’t bitten my nails!) I have always been a nail biter so this was huge for me!

We went to Whipsnade Zoo! It was always one of those places I would love to visit but we never quite managed too. I loved watching the Giraffes and the boys loved the Rhino’s!

Snow also made an appearance! Remember the Beast from the East? There was no snow day for us as the school remained open!

March was the month of more snow! Thanks to Stormageddon I had ample opportunities to get out in the snow with the boys! The boys both received postcards home from school for all the great work and positive attitudes they have had!

We met the Easter bunny at Wyevale Garden Centre and ate bucket loads of chocolate with Queensgate Shopping Centre!

Jack and I went to London for the first time! We had lots of fun learning how to cook Moroccan Meatballs at Jamie Oliver’s Cookery School. We also did the tourist thing and explored a few sights of London. Jack loved the Platform 9 and 3/4 at Kings Cross, even if we did have to queue ages!

We also took the boys back to Wicksteed Park. It is quickly becoming one of our favourite places to be. Jack went on his first Cub Camp since starting Cubs. It was Harry Potter themed so we had been watching the movies so Jack kinda knew what was happening.

Oliver received his first ever Honours Award! I couldn’t have been more proud of him.

One word = BlogOn!! I love BlogOn and everything about it, the sessions, brand den, other bloggers even!

Horses in the New Forest

May was also the first of our camping trips. We went to Holmsley Camping and Caravan Club Site in the New Forest. We saw wild ponies and even got up and personal with one of them (although I may have worried slightly).

We went on another camping trip except this time we went Glamping. We were invited for a couple of nights stay at Bumblebarn Bell Tents. An eco glamping site which aims to be as zero waste as possible.

I donated 19 inches of my hair to the Little Princess Trust too!

Another month another camping trip! We went on another glamping trip this time to West Runton Camping and Caravan Club Site.  We stayed in their Ready Camp tent and spent a few days at the beach! IT was such glorious weather and we all loved the getaway.

We took the boys to GulliverLand at Milton Keynes. IT had been a few years since our last visit and the boys were much older. There was so much for them to do and it wasn’t too busy either!

The School holidays were full off days out to local parks and National Trust places. Peterborough Cathedral was also the host of the Soyuz Spacecraft that Astronaught Tim Peake came back to Earth in. It was somewhat breathtaking being so close to it. It really sparked the boys lust of life!

Paradise Wildlife Park

We went on another Camping trip this time to Hertford. It was Jack’s 9th Birthday so we took a day trip to Paradise Wildlife Park. It was also our last camping trip of the year.

Arthur started school! He spent the summer being so excited for his first day. He had to wait a whole week after the boys going back before he could start. He didn’t settle that great but looking back on it, it didn’t take long.

Oliver turned 7 the day after Arthur started school! And I also attended my 3rd BlogOn Conference!!

I love October! We went Pumpkin Picking and it was really hot! I think with all the snow we had later in the year the weather seems to have just moved up a few months.

Boat spotting in York

We went on our last big adventure during October Half Term. We stayed in a Hostel in York for a couple of days. We loved exploring the city and visiting places such as The Shambles! The boys loved watching the boats and I think Mark was just happy as the boys were being great! We then travelled further north to visit Mark’s dad in Blyth. We spent a couple of days on the beach, walking the dog and we even caught the recording of a BBC show Vera. Arthur loved getting up and close to the Angel of the North too!

Arthur turned 5! and had a joint birthday party with his best friend. We went to our first Christmas light switch on at Queensgate.

After October, December is another favourite month. I love Christmas and getting into the spirit of things! Our decs went up on the first weekend of December. Both Arthur and Oliver starred in their Nativity plays; Arthur was a Cow and Oliver a Wise Man.

The boys in Santas Grotto

We saw the Peter Pan pantomime at Key Theatre! and the boys went driving in small cars called Fireflys. We then of course had Christmas!!

Oh wow, looks like you had such an amazing year, giraffes are my fave animal too, and I’m also hoping to go to a blogon event for the first time this year.
Will definitely have to visit the paradise park you mentioned, sounds like fun. If there’s any good places to visit down in Peterborough do let me know ☺️ I only live around an hour and a half away, I think.
    Happy New Year xx
