English Heritage Enchanted Audley house & Gardens

One of the things I look forward to about heading into the winter months is how the appearance of our country changes so much. I know people aren’t fond of the rain and we joke about how grey the UK can be, I really enjoy seeing the reds and oranges of Autumn. Of course, along with this change of seasons comes shorter days, longer nights and less of an opportunity to get out and spend time with my boys. As much as I love the winter months, we need to be able to head out sometimes so that we all don’t go stir crazy! There are only so many craft activities we can do..

English Heritage Enchanted Events at Audley house & Gardens

The English Heritage is transforming 6 of their sites this winter, opening Enchanted Events up and down the country. It looks to be an amazing evening full of magical and enchanting escapades. Finding things for the boys to do (and enjoy for that matter) whilst learning something is always a bonus. Audley End House & Gardens is our local English Heritage site and it is one of the 6 hosting the Enchanted Events.

From the moment you enter to the moment you leave you will feel like you have been taken back in time to a more dream-like past. The gardens will be full of twinkling lights and the path lit up by a sting of lanterns. Such a truly enchanting experience. The light trails and projections installed will showcase the varied history of Audley End’s past.

With specific parts of the trail aimed at children the boys won’t be feeling bored, to me that’s important. There will be a shadow puppet theatre (which my 3 will love!) as well as miniature scenes recreated with dolls house sized characters. Each scene is inspired by the nursery at Audley End and the lives of the eight (yes 8!) Braybrooke children that lived there.

But that’s not all on offer with the English Heritage Enchanting Events. You will also be able to enjoy some evening refreshments of mulled wine and mince pies (yum!) as well as toasting GIANT marshmallows. There will also be the opportunity to buy some Stocking filler gifts from the festive English Heritage Shop. There will also be rides and games (additional cost) in the stable yard.

Audley End House & Gardens opens from 4.30 (just when it gets dark) to 9pm from Friday 15h December to Saturday 23rd.
