With Day 4 of Blogtober the prompt is #NationalPoetryDay. I knew exactly what I wanted to share and that was when I met Hollie McNish. When it comes to Poetry I am a fan of the Spoken Word. I absolutely adore Hollie McNish and I can sit and listen to her poems all day! The first poem of hers I heard was Embarrassed. It was 2014 and I was feeding Arthur when I came across her video on Facebook. I hung onto her words, every single one of them. My head nodding and agreeing and that was it, I was hooked.
After I listened to Embarrassed I went on the search for more of her poems and came across another called “Mathematics” and it was another that made complete sense to me. Every single one of her poems I loved and I became obsessed just listening to her. In 2016 my sister surprised me with tickets to see Hollie live and she was being joined by a local spoken word artist Mark Grist too. They were both performing locally and Hollie was reading from her newest (at the time) book Nobody Told Me.
The evening was just bloody fantastic! I had so much fun and having never attended an event like it, I didn’t know what to expect. After the show we were given the opportunity to buy their books and get them signed. As an early birthday present Natasha bought me both books and we got them signed. Meeting Hollie was the highlight of my day, my week and most probably my month that year. Something I still think very fondly off and love. I just wish I had my photo taken with her as a momento.
