Slimming World Vs Weight Watchers

I will be the first to admit that me and diets don’t tend to see eye to eye. I have this problem you see, I love food. Ask anyone who knows me and they can probably reel off a list of about 5 of my favourites. I also know the effect this has on me and my lifestyle and things have to change. So I am going to choose one and stick with it. Thing is, I don’t know which one will suit me. So Slimming World or Weight Watchers.

Slimming World

The thing which appeals to me about Slimming World is you can eat loads! Pretty much until you feel full and that seems to be the point of it. There are good (free) foods and not so good (syn foods). You need to get your portion sizes pretty spot on but other than that it all seems pretty, dare I say, easy!

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers seems to be all about counting points. You are allocated so many points to eat and as long as you stick with that you will lose weight. Although saying this, there is a no count option for those (like me) who hate measuring, weighing or counting anything!

Which one?

A few years back along with my sister we went to a Slimming World meeting and for a few weeks, we did lose weight. We continued to go until a couple of weeks before Christmas and we lost our mojo a bit. Christmas came and went, and the weight crept back up! Soon here we are, a few years later wishing that I had stopped the journey, I would have been at Target by now and probably a lot more confident in myself.

This is where you guys come in, let me know which worked for you? Slimming World or Weight Watchers?

Slimming world is great for me as it’s not really about buying “diet products” but changing eating habits and living healthily. I lost 5 stone with sw but wasn’t doing it for me but because I had to for ivf treatment. After that finished and wasn’t successful I spent the past 3 years rebelling against being told what I had to weigh.
I’ve put on nearly 4 stone of that and have just rejoined again because I now want to do this for me.
It’s a really flexible sensible plan- not a diet- that if you’re ready to commit to it will change your eating habits.
I like it because we don’t have ready meals and cook from scratch so I find sw works really well with that although I’m not into the “cheat” type recipes like coating things in smash etc.

Slimming world for me, you still get to eat what you want. It’s not a diet, it’s making healthier lifestyle changes for life.

Slimming world because you can eat free foods but you must have plenty of speed fruit and veg mainly.

I like my food so Slimming world appealed to me. Some of my portion sizes are huge and yet I’ve steadily lost 3.5 stone since the end of October last year. Usually if I go on a diet something clicks in my brain and I become constantly hungry. Not with Slimming world. I am actually eating more than I did before. My son in law and daughter have now joined. He has lost two stone in a few weeks and she has lost a stone. Fabulous. Don’t really see it as a weight loss diet, just a change in how you think about food, which is why I think it works.

Slimming world.. I’m only in week 8 and have already lost 1st…. I love it . It’s a bit to get your head around, but once your work out for free food and your speed foods it’s easy x

I feel healthier on slimming world and almost at target…think it has made me change the way I cook so a change for life.

Got to target with weight watchers but by eating what I wanted until I’d used my days points then going hungry. Soon put weight back on.

I find Weight Watchers works best for me. I eat out a lot (and like a g&t with it) and found WW gave me more flexibility with how I choose to eat whilst still helping me to lose weight. I’m also a bugger with portion sizes so need to weigh and measure or I end up stuffing my face, even if that is on healthy foods.
Essentially all diets create a calorie deficit, it’s just finding the way that suits your lifestyle and works best for you xx

Weight Watchers definitely. As you say you don’t have to do counting or measuring if you don’t want to. I have done both WW and SW in the past and wanted to make sure that I never got to the same size again. SW seems advertise that you can eat as much white pasta and rice as you like which is so unhealthy. Also needed an app to help me as couldn’t live without my phone and the WW one is head and shoulders above SW. Also wanted to learn stuff about how to keep my weight off as I was losing not just sit around and listen to the whole groups weight losses and gains – painful! Anyway, just my opinion but 50lbs lost and loving WW. Hope this helps x

I have done both SW and WW and lost weight with both, trouble is the weight goes back on so now I’m calorie counting with the my fitness pal app. Finding it is re-educating me and I’ve lost nearly 10lb since January 20th much better than counting syns and points.

About 10 years ago I did weight watchers and I lost just under 8 stones. It absolutely worked but i have to say I was always hungry. Over the years Iv put weight back on and Iv joined slimming world and I would never go back to weight watchers. I don’t ever feel hungry and I have a big appetite. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with weight watchers because it did work but I much prefer slimming world.

I did Weight Watchers many times in the US. It is a good program but really difficult to stay with, though I did have some success. Moved to the UK and started Slimming World and like it much better. SW has greater variety regarding free foods, including potatoes, rice and pasta, all of which were strictly limited in WW. Also, pork and beef are “free” in SW, but not in WW. (On the other hand, SW allows less bread and dairy products). I wish that I’d been doing SW for all these years, but the program is really limited in US. I never even heard of SW until I moved to the UK.
