#blogtober16 – Day 7 – What made you start blogging?

In total honesty my life is a bore. I don’t have many local friends and I don’t really have much of a hobby either. I used to enjoy reading but I barely get enough time to go the loo on my own, let alone read a book. Since having children it hasn’t made financial sense for me to return to work so we do not have lots of extra cash. Life at the moment is pretty samey. I like samey. Samey is safe and secure. We know where we stand with Samey. But sometimes, Just sometimes I like to do things a little different.
I like to share photos, memories and life stories. I enjoy writing, although most of the time it doesn’t make sense and I tend to waffle on a bit. Well, until I have a coffee and I wake up and re read it and I am like what the ..!!? Blogging is my way of writing how I feel because most of my readers don’t know me. It’s nice to write what I really want to write without having to sensor something. On my personal Facebook I always have to be wary of what I upload so I don’t offend family.

Blog history

Back in 2014 I created my first blog called Slugs and Snail. I wanted Slugs and Snails (I loved the rhyme “Sugar and spice”) but it was taken, Slugs and snail was the next best thing. The blog kicked off when I took part in the UK Breastfeeding scavenger hunt. As life continued the blog took a back seat. I wasn’t sure when I would find time to be able to write posts so as my life went forward the blog stalled.
Recently I have been reading more and more blogs, and I missed mine. I wanted to get back into blogging. I started back again with Slugs and Snail and quickly realised that I no longer really liked the name, and you have to like your blog to want to post on there.
I joined a couple of Facebook groups and soon realised I knew nothing. There were so many ladies and gents all so knowledgeable and then there was me. I felt so way over my head, others were talking about how to increase DA and PA and scores and I am just like woah! I took the opportunity to ask questions and I learnt so much. Da is Domain Authority which tells you how high your website ranks amongst others. PA is Page Authority which tells you how each page is ranked. I am still learning about how I can work on each.

So end of July I took the opportunity to refresh my blog. I brought a domain and signed up to go self-hosted. I officially have a very small section of the internet to myself for my own ramblings.
The Mum Diaries was born with a fresh website and new look. I love my name, logo and everything about it. I enjoy sharing my family moment with others and having the opportunity to work with some great brands. I have been really fortunate to join a couple of great communities and I have learnt so much.
Blogging is a way to express myself. I don’t blog for anything in particular and I don’t blog for anyone but me.

I didn’t understand anything either and love the community that is so happy to share tips and give advice. Like you I write for me, it’s great if other people enjoy it too #Blogtober16

I felt exactly the same this time last October. after a while having a vanity domain I had a DA of about 8, not bad I guess for someone that didn’t know what it was! I then found Linkys, Facebook Groups and an absolutly awesome Instagram pod which has just helped my blog to grow. I went self hosted in April and my stats are increasing, my confidence is getting better and I just love blogging. #Blogtober16
