Meet Helen, a local mum who is a qualified personal trainer certified in Pre and Postnatal exercise. Helen owns Aspire Personal Training and runs classes within Peterborough to help mums with their fitness. Children and babies are welcome. Helen also runs a specific pre and postnatal exercise class too.
1) Do you live local? What do you think of where you live?
I live in Woodston, I moved here when my 7 year old was 6 months old. I love the local community, lovely green spaces and parks and huge choice of activities for children.
2) Do you have children? Would you like children?
My first son Jack was stillborn in 2008. I have since had another son Ethan aged 7 and a daughter Minnie aged 3.
3)What is your favourite part of the city? And why? (I love the cathedral, it is always so peaceful, yet beaming with history!)
My favourite part of the city is the Green Backyard. It is an oasis of calm and I’ve made so many great friends there. The passion of the volunteers who run it is amazing.
4) What do you like to do on your day off?
On my day off I go to Disco Friday with my daughter and then we chill at home. I’m always rushing so it’s lovely to relax!
5) What is Business/Group? Why did you start it?
I am a personal trainer and teach fitness classes in the local area. My business is called Aspire Personal Training. I decided when I was pregnant with Minnie that I wanted a career that combined my love of exercise and nurturing people. I began studying a few years ago and gained my Level 3 Personal Trainer Certificate and Level 3 Award in Designing Pre & Postnatal Exercise Programmes.
6) How is it going?
I use a gentle approach and encourage everyone to reach their goals in a way that suits them. It’s great to see word spreading about my classes and meeting lots of people who I am helping on their fitness journey.
7) When is it on? And How often?
My Facebook page is updated regularly with classes and information.
8) Any funny/embarrassing moments?
I was teaching an outdoor class once and we were throwing tennis balls. Someone was walking a dog nearby and the dog ended up chasing the balls. It was really funny!
9) Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
In 5 years time I want to be doing what I’m doing at the moment as I absolutely love it. I’d also love to organise some groups to help women socialise and get fit after having babies as I have many friends who have suffered with Post Natal Depression. I used to run a playgroup to help people socialise and avoid being isolated after having children so this feels like a great combination of different aspects of my life.
10) If you could be Mayor of Peterborough for the day, what would you do?
If I was mayor of Peterborough for one day I would organise a huge free festival celebrating the diversity and positive aspects of the city. We have so many interesting and talented people living here and I’m lucky enough to talk to them every day.
